Helmut Lang asymmetric military shirt from S/S 2004. In excellent used condition with minor signs of wear. Made in Italy.

S/S 2004 is one of Helmut Lang's most famous seasons and many of its captivating designs are now part of modern fashion history. One of the collection's strongest themes was the' 'iridescent color' and 'lightness of structure' of dragonflies. Lang's typical sharp silhouettes were intensified by abstracted shapes, elastic straps, cut-outs and unexpected splashes of reflective materials. In line with this intricate approach, this shirt features an abstract layered detail on the right shoulder. Consisting of a wide self-fabric band that secures to the shoulder using an epaulette-esque loop, the military-inspired decoration lends a cerebral elegance to the simple design. (Pictured: a vaguely similar design from S/S 05)

While being a highly directional design that was exclusive to the S/S 2004 collection, the shirt is tailor made to the same high specifications as Helmut Lang's classic shirts. The mother-of-pearl button closure leads up to a chunky point collar with a strong yet subtle shape. The sleeves have a sharp two-piece construction, while the upper back features side pleats for increased comfort. All interior seams have flat fell finishing that prevents them from undesirable fraying, thereby ensuring the longevity of the shirt. The fabric is a luxurious cotton poplin with a smooth texture and a slightly lustrous finish. The silhouette is slimmer than Lang's classic shirts with narrow shoulders, skinny sleeves and a fitted body.

Combining masculine classicism with Helmut Lang's ambiguous explorations of form, this refined shirt will demonstrates the sophistication of the final years before the designer's departure from his eponymous label. Strongly recommended.
