The Prize Cow motif was one of the signature details of the S/S 2011, one of Burberry's most coveted collections in recent years. The large monochromatic print creates a playful juxtaposition between the collection's hard-edged biker outerwear and its quirky theme which decorated tops and knitwear. Like all Burberry Prorsum tops, several interesting details make this a very refined piece that has little in common with ordinary basics.
Prize cows are a typical sight in agricultural show (field day) competitions, where primary producers showcase their finest livestock and/or crops. Originating in the English North, the tradition of agricultural shows remains strong in several communities across the UK. Quintessential British traditions like this are often a source of inspiration for Christopher Bailey; it is fair to assume that this retro print is an adaptation of a sketch from an old publication discovered by Burberry's design team.
The T-shirt is crafted from a fine cotton jersey in a pale grey melange hue. Treated for a slightly vintage finish, the luxurious knit is very smooth and has a soft unstructured drape. The cut is narrow-shouldered and flattering, featuring exaggerated twisted seams on the body that further enhance the movement of the fabric when in motion. This type of side seam construction has been employed by Bailey since his first years at Burberry. The neck has a wide crew shape and is finished with soft ribbed knit. Finally, the Burberry Prorsum logo adorns the upper back.
A versatile piece that has been a favourite among Burberry Prorsum aficionados, this easy-to-wear piece will add a healthy dose of quirkiness to any casual outfit.
