A/W 2010-2011 was one of Burberry's most coveted collections in recent years, with almost every signature design becoming a highly coveted object of lust. Inspired by aviator and workwear classics, Christopher Bailey expressed the rugged and aggressive sides of the Burberry man and created one of the most copied collections of the decade. This shirt was one of the collection's signature tops, was worn in most runway looks and appeared extensively in the seasonal campaign.
The shirt is made from a heavy and dense cotton twill that produces a sharp, structured silhouette. The fabric has been washed to produce a wrinkled and subtly faded vintage effect. The fabric's substantial weight means that it can be worn as a light jacket. Like most Prorsum shirts, the cut is slim and flattering, with a short length, sharp collar, narrow shoulders and slim sleeves. In this instance, the formality of the shirt's slim fit is juxtaposed by its workwear aesthetic, with four oversized patch pockets that look rather stylish while being very useful. The shoulders and armholes are finished in the collection's signature heavy triple stitched seams.
The attention to detail of this piece is exemplary, and demonstrates the high standard of the Prorsum range. Elaborate stitch detailing adorns various parts of the shirt, from the linear decoration of the pockets to the double stitching of the button placket. Likewise, the extra long cuff openings have ornate rectangular edges, and so do the sides of the waist. All buttons are realised in tonal resin that complements the shirt's sharp modern styling, and feature elegant Prorsum engravings. On the inside, all seams have flat fell finishing that looks very professional while preventing them from undesirable fraying.
Overall, this is a quintessential Burberry Prorsum piece that combines Christopher Bailey's heritage-driven aesthetic with significant attention to detail and unique utilitarian detailing. It is a great example of a truly luxurious casual piece that will look good in just about any wardrobe and will definitely become one of your favourite everyday shirts.
