A/W 2009-2010 was a season devoted entirely to Christopher Bailey menswear classics. In line with his vision of 'disheveled elegance', the designer mixed ornate Edwardian outerwear with vintage-looking shirting and dramatic flared trousers to create a rock n' roll urgency. The palette was limited to a muted selection of charcoal, black and olive. Stylistically straightforward yet precisely on-point, the collection received tremendous praise from critics and fans alike.
Bailey and Burberry Prorsum's design team have demonstrated a tremendous commitment to cutting-edge craftsmanship over the years and this is evident across their range, down to the most basic designs. Indeed, this long-sleeve top is a very luxurious garment with a fantastic construction that sets it apart from typical T-shirts.
The piece is crafted from a finely knit cotton jersey fabric that has been mercerised to create a slightly lustrous finish with a smooth texture. The colour is a beautiful eggplant/grey, described by Burberry as 'black iris'. The cut is extremely fitted, with narrow proportions that closely follow the lines of the body. The sleeves feature long ribbed knit panels that give a subtle elegance to the skinny silhouette. Most interestingly, the majority of the seams have a reinforced flat fell construction that is typically seen in outerwear. This gives substance to the sharp silhouette, creating a structured effect. The crew neck is finished with a large concealed placket with four pearlescent blue buttons engraved with the Burberry logo.
A directional basic that is quintessential Prorsum in its sharp fit and refined aesthetic, this T-shirt will become a perennial favourite.
