2003 Super 140's Wool Handmade Square-End Narrow Tie
Width: 5,7 cm / 2,25".
Helmut Lang narrow necktie from A/W 2003. In brand new condition without tags. Handmade in Italy.
A/W 2003 is seen by many as Helmut Lang's definitive 'bondage' collection. A diverse variety of inspirations -ranging from airforce uniforms and Vivienne Westwood's Seditionaries to classic evening tailoring- were refined into a unique collection that combined subcultural aggression with refined sartorialism. The season's conceptually rich designs have become part of contemporary fashion history, influencing a wide range of designers in the process.
This tie represents the collection's more serious tailored side. Constructed entirely by hand to an exceptional standard, it is characterised by Lang's subdued displays of texture and form. The fabric is a Super 140's virgin wool that Lang used primarily for suits. Woven in a fine flat weave, it has a soft, smooth texture and a solid black surface that lends a very clean appearance to the piece. The tie's narrow width and rectangular (square) end set it apart from more common designs, further complementing the streamlined aesthetic.
Several hallmarks of high quality tie-making are present, such as the slip stitches across the back (done entirely by hand) that allow for a more flexible construction with improved drape that regains its shape after being worn. The stitches finish with horizontal bar tacks that secure the tie's edges. Subtle diagonal seams can be used as a point of reference to align the tie, while the narrow end is lined in smooth satin.
Expertly crafted, this tie is a stylish and versatile accessory that will complement formal as well as more casual outfits. Its impeccable finish demonstrates the craftsmanship and quietly avant-garde aesthetic of Helmut Lang's tailoring range.
