Helmut Lang overdyed denim jacket with leather sleeves from S/S 2004. In brand new condition with tags. Made in Italy.
S/S 2004 is one of Helmut Lang's most famous seasons and many of its captivating designs are now part of modern fashion history. Lang's typical sharp silhouettes were intensified by abstracted shapes, elastic straps, cut-outs and unexpected splashes of reflective materials. While many of the collection's denim designs were not shown on the runway, their sophistication certainly makes them worth the attention of Helmut Lang collectors.
The jacket is based on the classic trucker jacket that was first introduced for Lang's S/S 1997 collection. Upon a first examination, it is the fabrication of this jacket that truly sets it apart from typical denim garments. The heavy weight denim fabric has been overdyed for a deep saturated colour finish with a vintage texture. Contrastingly, the sleeves are realised in calf leather with fine grains that has been hammered and tumble washed to give it a soft texture with pronounced irregularities. It should be noted that although leather-sleeved outerwear is not a rare sight nowadays, this was not at all the case when this piece was presented in 2003. A chunky collar and adjustable waist tabs complete the design.
Being the Slim version of the design, it has closely fitted shoulders, a tapered body and narrow elongated sleeves (Pictured: S/S 2003 denim jackets of this cut.) Furthermore, in line with Lang's sophisticated approach, the jacket is beautifully finished. All hardware has a matte gunmetal finish that complements the dark colours of the piece, and is engraved with the Helmut Lang logo. The construction is exceptionally precise, with flat-fell seams that protect the interior from undesirable fraying while making the jacket completely reversible. The sleeves are lined in black textured cotton.
A timelessly modern garment, this beautifully proportioned piece is an impressive demonstration of Helmut Lang's pioneering approach to menswear. Despite having been designed over a decade ago, it remains as progressive and contemporary as when first showcased. We are certain that it will become one of your favourite casual jackets, only to improve with wear. Strongly recommended.
