Ann Demeulemeester tank top from S/S 2003. In excellent used condition. Made in Belgium.
Sarah Mower has written that 'Usually, the most direct route to understanding an Ann Demeulemeester collection is to get the T-shirt.' For S/S 2003, the designer focused on aggressive biker-inspired designs that gave a novel sense of urgency to her work. Straps, large cargo pockets and contrasting zippers decorated leather jackets and trousers, while graphic T-shirts spelled out encouraging words like life, sin and wilder.
This simple tank top has a shrunken shape that undoubtedly reinforces the bold message of its screenprinted design. Placed symmetrically towards the hem, the statement print is inspired by the metal stencil-like accessories that were wrapped around the models on the runway show. Since then, this design has been reissued as part of Demeulemeester's Collection Blanche. Having been applied by hand, the print has a slightly uneven appearance with a raised surface. The piece is realised in a compact jersey fabric with a narrow rib that lends it a substantial feel while allowing it to gently stretch to the proportions of the wearer. Finally, the neckline and armholes are finished with self-fabric binding.
A versatile basic with a strong visual impact, this top will work well as a layering piece for the warmer months.
