A distinctive jacket from CoSTUME NATIONAL's A/W 1996 collection, it is a good demonstration of Ennio Capasa's subtle but eclectic approach to menswear. The designer's affinity for 1970s fashion is evident in its design, but executed with restraint and precision.
The jacket is crafted from thick blue velvet consisting of 70% cotton & 30% modal. Typically used for evening wear, the fabric has a smooth texture and deep colour. The design is a melange of military and tailoring inspirations, most notably West Germany Bundeswehr overshirts. It has a four-button closure with a short, workwear-inspired yoke panel. Chunky lapels and a large collar are accompanied by rectangular patch pockets, while the sleeves have workwear-inspired cuffs and a single pleat. The interior has a single pocket and is fully lined in viscose satin.
