1996 Oversize Asymmetric Caban with Turn-Up Sleeves in Soft Wool

An exceptionally rare find, this caban channels the 1970s-inspired aesthetic of CoSTUME NATIONAL's A/W 1996 collection. Its aesthetic, however, is far from retro, thanks to the designer's superb eye for proportion. While clearly based on traditional tailoring, its features have been thoroughly reworked to create what we would consider to be a modern classic.

The coat has an off-centre closure with short, workwear-inspired yoke panels. Unusually large buttons and an oversize point collar define the piece, while the waist features equally oversize high-positioned rectangular pockets. On the back, a narrow martingale has been inserted between the two pockets, and there is a single vent. The sleeves are extra long and are finished with viscose lining panels, allowing for them to form large turn-ups. 

The piece is crafted from a soft 100% virgin wool coating fabric, with a fleecy texture and a bit of natural stretch. The interior has a single pocket and is fully lined in quilted cotton for increased insulation.
