Burberry Prorsum drop-crotch trousers from S/S 2012. Sample in brand new condition without tags. Made in Italy. RRP: £495
For S/S 2012, Christopher Bailey sought to highlight the handmade and artisanal aspects of Burberry's heritage. Classic streetwear and workwear pieces were deconstructed for warmer weather and realised in colourful textured fabrics. These trousers represent the collection's quirky tailored aesthetic, and their versatility explains why they were worn in most runway looks. Although from a summer collection, they are definitely an all-weather item. Their structured drop-crotch cut has been a Prorsum staple since A/W 2007, and completely sets them apart from ordinary trousers without looking gaudy like most-drop crotch designs. They can also be worn higher up on the waist like on the runway for a more conservative look.
The trousers are made from robust cotton gabardine in an overdyed dark navy hue. The cut is fitted with a narrow tapered leg. Instead of relying on belt loops, the beautifully hand-ruched waist stretches to fit. The front of the waistband has a sharp rectangular shape, and the fly closes with three buttons and a double hook-and-eye closure. All pockets have precise double welt finishing, and the back pockets are secured by buttons. The interior is partially lined in strong off-white cotton/silk, while the front is lined in a smooth cupro/acetate blend that makes the trousers a pleasure to wear. All metal buttons are engraved with the Prorsum logo and have a unique black/silver distressed finish.
Our photos do not do these trousers any justice. They are a versatile not-so-basic staple that will add interest to your outfit without being visually excessive, and their finishing is of a very high standard like all Prorsum garments. Understated yet directional, these will become one of your favourite pairs of everyday trousers.
