Burberry Prorsum officer's coat from A/W 2010-2011. Sample in brand new condition without tags. Made in Italy. RRP: £1985

A/W 2010-2011 was one of Burberry's most coveted collections in recent years, with almost every signature design becoming a highly coveted object of lust. Inspired by aviator and workwear classics, Christopher Bailey expressed the rugged and aggressive sides of the Burberry man and created one of the most copied collections of the decade. Everything about this coat is astounding, from its completely three-dimensional construction to the spectacular fabric and high quality hardware.

The coat is made from a unique bonded fabric. The visible side is traditionally woven virgin wool gabardine, described by Burberry as 'cavalry twill'. The fabric is completely waterproof like the traditional Burberry trench and feels soft and substantial. The interior side is bonded to a structured polyamide backing. The second material's thickness give the fabric a substantial strength and a sculptural, armor-like silhouette that feels amazing when worn. This idiosyncratic fabric complements the coat's sharp styling, that features many of the collection's signature details. The double breasted front features a 14 button closure, with the buttons placed closely to each other for a very severe look. The front has a multi-panelled construction that gives the coat a very handsome geometrical shape that follows the lines of the body.

The attention to detail of this piece is remarkable, from the beautiful metal buttons to the heavy luggage stitching throughout. All buttons are engraved with the Prorsum logo and are realised in a black/gunmetal colour that complements the coat's dark aesthetic. A chunky stand-up collar is framed by oversized epaulettes and trim lapels. The belt features a beautiful calf leather buckle that is finely edged like all traditionally made leather goods. The single vent in the back is secured by a button. The interior is fully lined in smooth viscose, with a black 'Burberry Prorsum' jacquard fabric for the body and white striped fabric for the sleeves. The lining is attached by hand on the shoulders and hem. Burberry's signature chunky hanging chain adorns the neck.

Overall, this is a beautiful garment that is unmistakably Prorsum in its heritage references, luxurious finishing and directional aesthetic. The cut is aggressively masculine, structured and looks like nothing else. Furthermore, Burberry's craftsmanship is second to none, and this is evident in the exquisite hardware and perfectly executed construction. In our view, it is a garment that is well worth its high value and exhibits Christopher Bailey's design vision at its very best.
