Burberry Prorsum ombre-dyed plastron T-shirt from S/S 2009. In excellent used condition. Made in Italy. RRP: £265

The clothes in Burberry Prorsum's S/S 2009 collection were described by Christopher Bailey as 'crumpled classics', which explains the timeworn and softly rugged aesthetic that permeated the runway. Inspired by Derek Jarman's famous garden cottage in Dungeness, Kent, Bailey presented an eclectic mix of soft outerwear and vintage-inspired knitwear in an earthy palette. The result was a gently melancholic and laid-back collection that emphasized volume, texture and a gentle feeling of comfort.

This directional T-shirt is crafted from luxurious mercerised cotton that has a soft hand and a slightly lustrous finish. An ornate buttoned plastron inspired by traditional dress shirts decorates the chest, adding a strong point of visual interest. The cut is slim and elongated like most Prorsum tops, featuring some relaxed elements such as a slightly dropped shoulderline and elongated skinny sleeves that softly stack on the cuffs. It should also be noted that although this piece is from the men's line, its proportions make it undoubtedly unisex

The quality and attention to detail of this T-shirt elevate its athletic origins to new heightsAfter being sewn, the top was dip dyed by hand to produce a subtle dégradé effect, where the light grey/blue fabric darkens to a steel grey towards the bottom. The raw edges of the pintucks on the plastron lends them a slightly worn-in character that is pleasantly offset by the glazed finish of the metal buttons, engraved with the Burberry Prorsum logo. The wide crew neck is finished with a thin stripe of self-fabric binding.

A beautiful piece from one of Burberry Prorsum's most cherished collections, this T-shirt makes subtle and sophisticated statement that is synonymous with Burberry's timelessly relevant heritage.
