For S/S 2011, Rick Owens reduced the forms of his classic designs to their bare essentials. The silhouettes were architectural and subtly exaggerated, while a new emphasis was placed on fabric treatments. Tim Blanks explains: 

"Monastic couture" was Rick Owens' own label for his new collection, and the monochrome severity of the show was a step away from the romance of Fall. Or maybe it was a different kind of romance: The designer was so enthralled by his fabrics for Spring that he felt like stripping everything away and letting the cloth speak for itself.' These spectacular trousers are a deft demonstration of Owens's reductive yet rich approach for Anthem. An exaggerated take on his classic 'Detroit' cut, they have an extremely fitted cut with a dramatic flared leg. On the front, ornate origami-like 'cargo' pockets produce a striking architectural silhouette. The trousers' intricate construction is complemented by a unique and extremely luxurious 40% cotton/36% Nylon/24% silk grosgrain fabric. Densely woven with defined cords, it has an extremely structured drape that gives the trousers a strong sculptural quality. Interestingly, the trousers are able to stand on their own without a hanger. 

The construction of the trousers is of a very high standard, with no compromise in their finishing. The cargo pockets are completely three-dimensional, shaped by precise darts and pleats. Their large size also makes them highly functional. Like DRKSHDW jeans, the inner thighs feature Owens's characteristic darts while the legs are unhemmed. The fly secured with five large buttons made from genuine buffalo horn with pronounced colour variations. The interior is partially lined in smooth cotton/silk, and all seams are expertly bound with tonal sateen tape. Owens's signature embroidered logo adorns the waist band. 

A radical experiment in silhouette and proportion, these exquisitely finished trousers are a testament to Rick Owens's idiosyncratic vision.
