2006 'Aether et Anima' Dropped Armhole Tank Top

Raf Simons top from S/S 2006 'Icarus Surgit'. In good used condition with fading. Made in Belgium.
S/S 2006 marks the 10th year anniversary of the Raf Simons brand. Shown in Florence's Boboli Gardens for the Pitti Uomo fair, the runway presentation was accompanied by an extended video display of Simons's past output and the now coveted 'Raf Simons Redux' book. For the show, high-tech materials, intricate knits and futuristic laser-cut treatments set the tone for a beautiful collection that emphasised airiness, movement, and flight.
This tank top features a bold print that states Aether et Anima and MMDCCLIX (the year 2859). The former is a latin phrase that can be translated as 'air and soul' and is emblazoned five times across the front. Enigmatic designs like this have undoubtedly become a signature for Simons, and their ambiguous messages are often connected to the designer's personal experiences. The fabric is a medium weight cotton jersey that has been washed for a slightly faded finish.
In this instance, the eye-catching decoration of the tank top is complemented by a slightly tapered and unrestricted cut, featuring a dropped armhole silhouette that slightly expands towards the chest. The result is similar to typical deep cut out armholes found in DIY band T-shirts. The neckline has Simons's typical narrow shape, while the armholes and neckline are finished with ribbed knit binding.
A quintessential Raf Simons basic featuring his celebrated approach to graphic decoration, this tank top will add a distinctive point of interest to a casual outfit.
