2004 Vintage Black Corduroy MA-1 Jeans
Raf Simons bomber-style jeans from A/W 2004-2004 'Waves'. In excellent used condition. Made in Belgium.
Simons offered a series of reissues of classic designs from the late 1990s as part of his A/W 2004 'Waves' collection. Among his many trouser designs, no other piece captures Simons's subculture-inspired vision more succinctly than his iconic MA-1 jeans; Dating back to A/W 1998 'Radioactivity', the design has been repeated for almost every collection that followed (pictured: S/S 2002) up until 2004.
Simons often appropriated the details and shapes of military garments for his streetwear creations, often taking his cue from northern European subcultures. In this instance, heavy D-rings and a zipped cargo pocket -typically seen in MA-1 bomber jackets- add an unconventionally aggressive element to the otherwise classic 5-pocket design. This version is crafted from black corduroy that has been washed for a slightly broken-in vintage finish. The cut is fitted throughout with a narrow straight leg.
The finishing of the piece is precise and streamlined, featuring horizontal bar tack stitches on the edges of the pockets instead of the typical metal rivets seen in traditional jeans. The zip fly is finished with a beautiful laurel wreath button, similar to the antique hardware seen on WWII worker garments. On the interior, the pockets are lined in brushed cotton like traditional tailored trousers.
These jeans are a quintessential Raf Simons design and demonstrate the timeless relevance of his early work. Iconic yet very easy to wear, they will become one of your favourite go-to pieces.
