Ann Demeulemeester military jacket from S/S 2002. In excellent used condition. Made in Italy. RRP: BEF 32000 (£655)

Ann Demeulemeester garments from her older collections demonstrate how little her aesthetic has changed despite various fluctuations in mainstream trends over the past decade. However, unlike newer designs, her older creations are incredibly well made to an almost couture standard. This beautiful jacket is no exception, with subtle yet astounding beauty and meticulous attention to detail. Its high standard is demonstrated in various aspects, from the luscious fabric and flattering cut to the spectacular metal buttons and hand-finished details

The jacket is made from luxurious black viscose twill satin, whose interior side is bonded with cotton for added structure. This elegant fabric has a deep luster and a smooth silky texture, which complements the jacket's sharp cut. Unlike newer Ann Demeulemeester outerwear the fit is fairly slim and articulated, with defined shoulders and an elongated shape. The jacket closes with 7 heavy silver buttons with a textured surface and an oxidized finish. They are one of S/S 2002's signature details and some of the most beautiful buttons we have ever seen. The collar has a biker-inspired moto closure and the waist features vertical welt pockets.

There is an abundance of details that demonstrate the high quality of the jacket 's construction and the care put into its design. The sleeves feature Demeulemeester's iconic 'bell' shape, with an elongated form that slightly expands at the cuffs for an elegantly nonchalant look. Their pattern is completely three-dimensional and very hard to capture on a hanger. Likewise, the panels of the back have a beautiful subtly contoured shape that subtly follows the lines of the body. The interior is beautifully constructed as pictured; all interior seams feature French finishing, while parts of the interior are connected by hand-finished seams.

Overall, this is a prime example of Ann Demeulemeester's perfectly executed outerwear, with an iconic and very personal aesthetic that has been an inspiration to many. The combination of a luxurious fabric with a genuinely fashion-forward aesthetic and perfectly executed detailing results in a timeless and classic piece that is impressive yet versatile and easy to wear in any outfit.
