Burberry Prorsum U-neck T-shirt from S/S 2007. In excellent used condition. Made in Portugal. RRP: £125

'I wanted the collection to feel tailored and refined, but to have the effortless easy attitude of a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, reflecting the Burberry look of dishevelled elegance,' said Christopher Bailey of the S/S 2007 collection. Antonio Berardi writes:

'The show kicked off with a veritable display of the finest and freshest sartorial elegance seen so far. The trench was omni-present as ever, but with sleeves rolled up and belted with the finest sliver of a tan belt, it looked fresh and new. Teamed with taupe, mushroom, stone and vanilla-hued suiting, the finest cotton voile shirting, lightweight alpaca or cashmere cable knits and two-tone tie die silk knitted scarves, the look was impeccable.'

Although Bailey's output at Burberry is largely associated with Prorsum's elaborately constructed military outerwear, an equally sophisticated approach can be found in his basic designs. High quality fabrics, thoughtful details and intricate patterns make Burberry Prorsum T-shirts have little in common with ordinary basics

The T-shirt is realised in a lightweight fine cotton jersey with a very smooth texture. The fabric has been washed and processed extensively to create an irregular, slightly threadbare effect reminiscent of decades-old vintage pieces. Its exceptional softness and lightness complement the top's slim cut featuring an elongated body, narrow shoulders and a distinctive U-shaped neckline (a signature for S/S 2007). The neck is finished with a double raw-edged detail reinforced by a thick coverlock stitch, while subtly twisted seams on the body further enhance the top's effortless drape when worn. This type of side seam construction has been employed by Bailey since his first years at Burberry.

An ideal layering staple combining a simple design with thoughtful construction details, this piece will lend itself well to a variety of outfits.
