Ann Demeulemeester long-sleeve T-shirt from  A/W 2003-2004 . In excellent used condition . Made in Belgium.

In an article on Demeulemeester's departure from her eponymous label, Eugene Rabkin writes

'Demeulemeester’s body of work is proof that if you stick to your guns, even the fickle fashion world will listen. Like any true creator, Demeulemeester wanted to say something with her work and she has said it.'

A/W 2003 is recognised as one of the Belgian designer's most iconic seasons. Although many of the styling concepts and garments had been seen before, the collection demonstrated a beautiful and cohesive balance between Demeulemeester's historical and contemporary inspirations, while ultimately proposing a universe that was entirely her own. Sharp and angular tailoring was softened by flowing trousers, Seditionaries-style straps met luxurious satin and thin-layered gauze T-shirts were paired with heavy washed leather. Through its subtle yet striking aesthetic, the collection set the template for the Ann Demeulemeester look of the 21st century.

This T-shirt was one of the collection's key items, and was shown on both male and female models in numerous runway looks. Since then, it has also been reissued as part of Demeulemeester's Collection Blanche. The front features a distinctive night sky design consisting of slightly pixelated white stars. The print has been applied by hand, resulting in a slightly irregular effect while also covering the neckline and the top of the sleeves. The refined design is complemented by the precisely tailored construction, featuring contoured side panels, a long vertical back seam and darts. These details lend a three-dimensional silhouette to the piece that is more commonly seen in traditional shirts. The fabric is a soft cotton jersey with a brushed finish that gives it a slightly fleecy texture. The wide neckline is finished with self-fabric binding.

Sarah Mower once wrote that 'Usually, the most direct route to understanding an Ann Demeulemeester collection is to get the T-shirt.' In our view, this beautiful basic offers a straightforward yet enticing way of integrating Demeulemeester's aesthetic into one's everyday wardrobe.
