Helmut Lang printed 'Cowboy' tank top from S/S 2004. In brand new condition without tags. Made in Italy.

Helmut Lang's signature logo T-shirts were first introduced in S/S 1994 and soon become one of the label's basic staples. Although S/S 2004 is mainly remembered for its strapped outerwear and cut-out tops, an 'urban cowboy' theme was subtly present throughout the show: oversized belt buckles, pointy-toed leather shoes and the distinctive prints gave an additional layer of ambiguity to the abstract designs. The iconic 'Cowboy' tops are one of Lang's most coveted pieces from his final years as a fashion designer. In this vest, the bold design is applied on the interior side of the front and back, resulting in a reverse appearance with a faded finish. In this simple yet evocative way, a basic garment is transformed into a bold runway piece.

The top is made from a luxurious Egyptian cotton jersey with a lightweight texture and considerable stretch. The fabric's light mercerized treatment produces a faint luster. Furthermore, its high quality results in a very pleasant feel, while allowing it to maintain its deep colour for longer. The cut is very narrow and elongated with a wide neck. The construction is precise and streamlined, evident in the top's clean lines and the absolute symmetry of the prints. The armholes and neckline are finished with self-fabric binding.

While there is not much that can be said about the tank top's straightforward construction, Lang's intrinsically subversive approach to the typical printed T-shirt demonstrates the truly avant-garde nature of his minimalist approach. Channel the collection's post-urban aesthetic and wear this piece with a well cut suit for a dramatic yet refined statement.
