A/W 2007-2008 was Todd Lynn's first winter collection, and introduced one of the most radical and unique designers to the fashion world at large. Focusing on expertly crafted tailoring, high quality fabrics and intricate patterns, Lynn offered a sober and timeless alternative to the attention-seeking designers that were popular at the time. His much-coveted work from this period has been copied extensively and is still highly relevant. His creations are executed with an emphasis on quality and attention to detail that is generally found in couture rather than ready-to-wear. This limited edition runway piece was worn by both men and women on the runway, and has also been worn by Todd Lynn himself.
'Nachtotter' means night viper in German, perhaps alluding to the jacket's exquisite, razor-sharp lines. Exaggerated padding on the shoulders produces a severe architectural shape, while the sleeves are slim and elongated. The body is cropped with a longer front than the back. Still, this exquisite piece is much more beyond its flattering proportions. An examination of the materials and construction reveals that it is the product of painstaking attention to detail.
The jacket is made from a precious calf leather with a slightly polished finish in charcoal. It has a soft texture and pronounced grains (consistent with its high quality) and feels very strong without being stiff. Todd Lynn's supreme tailoring is clearly evident in the structured construction of the shoulders and their flawless execution. Numerous darts give the soft leather a uniquely structured three-dimensional silhouette. The spectacular construction of the back is a testament to the jacket's luxurious quality. The slit cuffs are finished with Lynn's signature chain buttons, one of our favourite details. Custom made by hand from genuine buffalo horn and antique metal, they allow the cuffs to subtly flare out and produce an incredible elongated silhouette. All zips on the jacket are Swiss made Riri. The interior is fully lined in a beautiful pale grey cotton and features two pockets.
