Burberry Prorsum tailored naval peacoat from S/S 2011. In excellent used condition. Made in Italy. RRP: £1095

As we have highlighted in other descriptions of 2011 Prorsum pieces, the collection was largely comprised of reissues of designs from A/W 2010, one of Christopher Bailey's most successful seasons. This iconic peacoat is a spring adaptation of 2010's wool felt military peacoat, a highly coveted piece that has become a favourite among collectors. Like the original design, the architectural cut and statement details give the jacket a refined elegance. The military design is complete with S/S 2011's distinctive metal finishes and beautiful oversized horn buttons

The intricate construction of this piece creates a slim and flattering silhouette: Strong shoulders, slim sleeves and a gently tapered waist closely follow the lines of the body. The coat's styling is extremely sharp with a closely positioned double-breasted closure and oversized peak lapels that elegantly engulf the neck when the collar is worn up. Beautifully engraved naval buttons give the coat an old-world nonchalance, while a buttoned martingale and the season's signature metal belt hooks adorn the back. These distinctive elements are inspired by the hook-and-eye neck closures of trench coats, and can function as belt loops. Please note that the jacket is not meant to be worn with a belt. The fabric is a medium weight cotton twill with a subtly washed finish. This hard-wearing fabric will mould to the wearer's movements over time and fade slightly for an authentic look.

An abundance of interesting features further demonstrate Christopher Bailey's exceptional attention to detail. The back features precisely executed inverted pleats that allow the back to comfortably expand when the arms stretch. The undersides of the large lapels and collar feature military geometrical stitching, while the cuffs are finished with buttoned tabs. The large buttons are made from buffalo horn that engraved with the Burberry Prorsum logo and a traditional naval anchor. On the back, the single vent secures with three buttons. The interior is lined on the sleeves and upper back; the unlined parts are expertly finished with sateen binding. Extensive hand finishing is evident on the shoulders and hem. Prorsum's signature oversized pull chain adorns the neck.

An asthetically refined and supremely executed piece, this peacoat channels Prorsum's heritage-inspired modernity at its finest.
