Helmut Lang zipped bondage jacket from A/W 1998-1999. In excellent used condition. Made in Italy.

Helmut Lang's output was rarely defined by seasonal themes. Design elements from his early collections were often reworked and reiterated until the label's demise, highlighting Lang's emphasis on refinement rather than novelty. The classic zipped blouson is a prime example of this attitude: First introduced in the early 1990s, it is one of Lang's interseasonal staples and was produced every season in different fabrics and finishes. Its effortless aesthetic evokes sophistication and understatement: a simple zip closure, a rectangular patch pocket and a sharp point collar complete the design. This rare version from one of Lang's best streetwear collections (pictured: A/W and S/S 1998) features a unique technical fabric and the designer's iconic bondage carrying straps.

The jacket's streamlined design is pleasantly offset by the numerous grosgrain cotton bondage straps found on the interior that can be attached like a harness to the wearer's body. The lower waist strap secures with D-rings and hangs visibly below the hem. Its long horizontal stitches create a subtle linear detail on the jacket's back. The fabric is soft double-faced cotton jersey: The white shell has a textured fleecy surface with fine cord stripes, while the underside is a compact jersey in a heather grey hue. The two fabrics are bonded together to create a stretchy yet substantial material with a clean and futuristic appearance

The simple design is finished with double-layered cuffs and raw edges with heavy overlocking. The interior has a single pocket at the same position as the exterior that secures with velcro, and both pockets' edges are reinforced with triangular stitching. The front closes with an antique silver zipper

This deceptively simple piece is a directional example of Lang's avant-garde streetwear, where cutting-edge materials meet abstract details and subtle references to subcultural styles.
