Simons explored cosmological beliefs and the quest for self-enlightenment for his S/S 2004 collection. Inspired by the works of Herman Hesse, the designer took a departure from his typical sartorial language, presenting abbreviated streetwear garments that were oversized to the extent where their original forms were obscured. In the process, their shapes were transformed into ethereal and flowing silhouettes that seemed to channel the draped garments worn by monks and priests of various cultures. Many of the pieces were decorated with religious imagery that highlighted the diverse ways enlightenment has been pursued across the world; this T-shirt features an ambiguous printed design that appropriates elements of Kabbalah, Hinduism, Thelema and possibly other religious doctrines.

Unlike most tops from the collection, the T-shirt features Simons's characteristic elongated silhouette with a form-fitting body and slim sleeves. The heavy cotton jersey fabric has been overdyed and washed for a deep vintage finish with pronounced colour irregularities. The piece was sewn using cotton thread, allowing the seams to adopt the same colours as the fabric. The obscure print on the front adorns the chest and shoulders. It has been screenprinted by hand, giving it a slightly pronounced texture. The neck has a subtle V shape, while the neckline and sleeves are finished with self-fabric binding.

A testament to Simons' idiosyncratic and deeply personal engagement with his work, this T-shirt combines a beautiful print with a flattering cut. It is a handsome basic that is conceptual yet versatile and easy to integrate in any wardrobe.
