Ann Demeulemeester 'Portrait' blazer jacket from A/W 2008-2009. In brand new condition without tags. Made in Italy. RRP: $2785 (£1700)

Ann Demeulemeester's A/W 2008-2009 collection is widely recognised as one of her most celebrated moments and as one of the most iconic menswear collections of the past decade. The season's iconic palette demonstrated how profoundly romantic the Ann Demeulemeester man can be, while maintaining his signature unkempt elegance. This jacket was one of the season's signature pieces and was worn in most runway looks; it is quintessentially Ann in its astounding beauty and meticulous attention to detail. The photos fail to demonstrate its completely three-dimensional construction, or how amazing it feels when worn. The jacket has an abundance of elegant details, such as beautiful piped detailing on the lapel and spiral sleeve seams.

Overall, it is clear that a lot of effort has been taken to create a luxuriously nonchalant garment that exhibits Ann's idiosyncratic vision with no compromises in quality or fit. The fabric is a 61% Linen/39% Wool blend with an organic grainy texture. This subversively elegant fabric has a subdued striped pattern, with barely perceptible hints of black and gold. The cut is fitted and elongated, with handsome constructed shoulders and long sleeves. The front closes with a single button that is placed quite high for a flattering elongated appearance. Ornate piping is inserted along the edges of the lapel, resulting in a unique three-dimensional effect (one of the season's signature details). The same detail is found on the pocket flaps and sleeve seams, which have an articulated spiral construction. The back has a beautiful contoured shape with curved seams that follow the lines of the body and a single vent. The sleeves feature functional buttonholes, and the buttons are made from genuine buffalo horn. The interior is fully lined in a black viscose/acetate blend and has two oversized buttoned pockets.

This jacket is a prime example of Demeulemeester's perfectly executed outerwear, with an iconic and somewhat romantic aesthetic that has been copied infinite times but never fully replicated. The combination of a unique fabric with Ann's genuinely fashion-forward aesthetic and perfectly executed detailing results in a timeless and classic piece that is impressive yet versatile and easy to wear. Furthermore, its extremely high quality ensures that it will be worn for years, only to look and feel better with age.
