Released every season in different colourways, materials and proportions, these sneakers are one of Ann Demeulemeester's signature pieces. Since their introduction for S/S 2005, they have established her as one of the most interesting voices in contemporary designer footwear. Stylistically, they appropriate aspects of the classic Chuck Taylor All Stars, however they are much more than a mere reproduction. Instead of welted rubber, the heavy outer sole is realised in horizontal strips of leather that echo the original Converse design while adding a hint of playful luxury. The proportions are also radically different with a chunky silhouette and beautiful round toe.

The pair for sale is one of the most memorable and coveted versions of Demeulemeester sneakers. They are realised in distressed cow suede and smooth goat leather in various off-white shades. An unstructured panel at the shaft gives them an extraordinary higher shape that can be presented in different ways; it can be nonchalantly folded down or the extra long laces can be tied around it for an elegant laced look that paradoxically sits somewhere between combat boots and ballet flats. The sole is made from alternating strips of suede and smooth leather that produce an interesting layered look. Finally, the laces are made from thick white cotton and pass through seven sets of tarnished silver eyelets. Besides the beautiful colours and detailing, the sneakers are expertly crafted like all Ann Demeulemeester footwear. The interior is fully lined in soft calf leather, while the insole has a padded construction that makes the shoes a pleasure to wear. Likewise, the heel and toe cap panels are reinforced to maintain the shoes' unique architectural shape.
