This elongated waistcoat demonstrates her ingenious approach, transforming classic 20th styles to iconic and directional modern staples. A signature design that has been released almost every season (eg. slightly longer for A/W 2013-2014) in various finishes, the elongated waistcoat is the ideal all-year piece; it looks amazing on its own in the summer, or adds a beautiful layered effect when worn under a shorter jacket.
Like most Ann Demeulemeester garments, this piece feels amazing when worn. Two buckled straps on the back can drastically adjust the waistcoat's silhouette, from an unstructured shape with a beautiful airy drape to a more restrained form-fitting shape that adapts itself to the lines of the body. The front has a five button closure with sharp slit pockets. The back features three small slits on the hem that add a subtle yet beautiful point of interest. The front is cut slightly longer than the back for a dramatic effect.
The fabrication and finishing of this piece encapsulate Ann's thoughtful and detail-oriented design approach. The front and back are made from slightly different fabrics; the front has twill weave with a faint black-on-black pinstripe pattern, while the back is smooth poplin. The back features a long vertical seam in the middle and each side has long darts. The buckles' hardware has a beautiful oxidised silver finish, while the buttons on the front are made from genuine buffalo horn with beautiful natural markings. The interior is fully lined in Ann's signature viscose/acetate sateen twill which makes the waistcoat a pleasure to wear even without a T-shirt.
