Ann Demeulemeester cashmere/linen sweater from A/W 2007-2008. In excellent used condition with minor sings of wear. Made in Belgium. RRP: €585 (£494)

Described by Tim Blanks as 'striking a perfect balance between power and vulnerability', A/W 2007-2008 was one of Ann Demeulemeester's most coveted and commercially successful seasons. Many of the signature pieces it presented laid the aesthetic groundwork for the collections that followed in the next two years, a period that is often seen as Demeulemeester's most prolific. In a muted palette of black, white and dark gray, the collection combined dramatic dandyism with the aggression of contemporary streetwear. This unique piece channels the collection's masculine aesthetic with a long V-shaped neck, elongated proportions and a beautiful fabric.

Demeulemeester is renown for offering beautiful fabrics that are exclusive to her collections, and her knitwear is often realised in very special and unique materials that live up to her venerable reputation. This unique sweater is made from 53% cashmere and 47% linen, a unique blend of two seemingly incongruous fibers that results in a precious yarn with the warmth and softness of pure cashmere and the organic texture of linen. The knit has an alternating pattern of regular and raised loose stripes that produces an intricate ribbed appearance with beautiful texture variations and subtle see-through details.

The sweater's unique fabrication complements its idiosyncratic cut. Like many Ann Demeulemeester tops, slim fitting elements are combined with looser shapes for a dramatic effect. The upper is particularly fitted on the shoulders and sleeves, while the body expands towards the hem for a draped look with beautiful movement. This effect is further enhanced by the knit's ribbed structure, which makes it cling on the body while being very stretchy.

Overall, this is undoubtedly a statement piece with an exaggerated silhouette and beautiful fabric that are quintessential Ann. It will look great in a variety of directional layered outfits.
